Xiaocun was born and grew up in Liaoyang, a small beautiful city in Northeast China. After he earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from Peking University in Beijing, Xiaocun moved to the United States and began his graduate study in Prof. George R. Newkome’s laboratory at The University of Akron, Ohio. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in polymer science, he relocated to Illinois and joined Prof. Jeffrey S. Moore’s group as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In August 2018, Xiaocun joined the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science at Clarkson University as an Assistant Professor. In graduate school, he focused on rational design and precise construction of 2D and 3D metallo-supramolecular architectures. His postdoctoral research was at the interface of polymer chemistry and materials engineering with a focus on the development of smart microcapsules for applications in self-reporting, self-healing and cure-on-demand materials. His current research interests include smart delivery systems, metallosupramolecular self-assembly, and mechanoresponsive polymeric materials.
